My name is Alan Teather and I have had a lifetime of experience.
I served in the military, became disabled, got married, had a family, and suffer badly from long-term mental illness. Reading this, you can understand if I say there have been a few ups and downs along the way.
My way of coping is meditation and by being a passionate craft worker, which has helped for many decades now. I have a long experience in photography, glasswork, candle making, sewing, crocheting, and especially traditional quilting. All to a high-quality standard.
In 2015 at the tender age of 54, I decided, on a whim, to return to education and study for a degree in Contemporary Textiles and Products.
I had been out of education for nearly 40 years, so I had to do an Access to Higher Education first. Having passed that I started my degree course in September 2016.
After 3, long, tumultuous, and exhausting years I gained a BA (Hons) degree in Contemporary Textiles and Products. I did learn more by going to university than I did before. However, at 50+ I did not need to be groomed by tutors for the world of work. I certainly did not need them trying to push a square peg into a round hole.
In the end, my first love, quilting was too hard to ignore when it came to setting up a business. I have been doing quilting on and off for the best part of 16 years and this was the longest time of any “hobby”. It seemed only appropriate to take my love further, hence Alan Teather Quilting.
You can be assured of a friendly, warm, and helpful environment at Alan Teather Quilting regardless of your quilting stature. If you are a beginner, a consummate professional, or worldwide mega star then you are welcome here.
So, there we are, a brief history of me and I look forward to helping you with your quilting adventure.
