Merry Christmas Advent Calendar
Here are some before and after photographs of a Merry Christmas Advent Calendar that we recently made up.
The photograph on the left is the beautiful Advent Calendar as it comes off the bolt. It is a is a fold on fold method. Instead of cutting out the individual pockets and sewing them on, the pockets are folded up on themselves and stitched. Therefore see the second photograph.
We then decided to do a nice quilted back on the long arm using Red Multi-Stars fabric from Makower. A gold thread and holly pattern completed the back. Consequently, because of the pockets on the Advent Calendar front it couldn’t be quilted. Accordingly, to overcome this we used a white backing fabric, some wadding and the red fabric to quilt the pattern. For example, the pattern shown on the white fabric is the design in this case.
A border from Robert Kaufman, was applied to the front of the Advent Calendar. This designer’s fabric really lifts any work it’s applied to. Lastly, the black binding was added. The size of each pocket measures approx. 7cm (2 ¾”), 6cm (2 ½”) with inside depth of 5.5cm (2 ¼”).
The result is a lovely Advent Calendar any child or adult would be proud to display. Likewise, receive as a wonderful gift to celebrate the build up to Christmas.
We can custom make these for you using one of the Advent Calendars available on our website. If you would like to make one yourself, why not come to a workshop? Another option is to buy the Advent Calendar panel and fabrics and have a go at home. All available on our website. Instructions on how to make the Advent Calendar are printed on the panel.
We also stock the more traditional Advent Calendar where the pockets are cut out and sewn on.
