SCRUB BAGS

Lots of people are making scrubs and face masks for our NHS heroes, so today we have been busy in our unit recycling old cotton fabric into scrub bags.

When our NHS heroes take their scrubs off at the end of a very long, hard day battling Covid-19 and looking after people in hospital they have to carefully make sure that their scrubs are washed at 60 degrees to kill off any of the infection.  They put the scrubs into a scrub bag  asthe idea behind the scrub bags is that the NHS staff wash their own scrubs at home and because of the risk of contamination if they were to take their scrubs off at home and put them straight in the washer they could be taking the virus into their home environment. So by putting the scrubs into these bags they can sling them in the boot then when they get home they can take the straight out of the boot and put the whole lot (scrub bag included) straight into a 60 degree wash so eliminating the threat of the virus being transported and spread.  These scrub bags have become prevalent because of Covid-19 but the staff who wear these scrubs fight viruses every day so they are useful not just for now but for years to come.

The scrub bag can then be re-used for the next lot of scrubs that our NHS heroes use that need washing on a hot wash.
