Shelbyville fat quarter bundle.

Shelbyville fat quarter bundle

We have a “vintage” fat quarter bundle called Shelbyville. This was designed by Jo Morton for Moda Fabrics. I say “vintage” because this bundle is at least 18 months old now so in quilting terms that is vintage. You will be very hard pushed to find this whole bundle. I hazard a guess that you will not be able to find it anywhere today except at Alan Teather Quilting. If you do find it in stock anywhere let me know.

This fabric bundle consists of 40 full fat quarters from the Shelbyville design. American fat quarters are a different measurement to that of the UK. American fat quarter sizes are 18” x 22”, the UK comparative is 20” x 22”. This is mentioned purely to avoid problems when used with a UK based pattern. What it means is, if your UK pattern says used “X” amount of fat quarters to get a quilt of “X” size then your UK quilt could be slightly smaller.

This bundle is for sale at £149.00 with free next day shipping. This might be a lot to pull out in one go, it would be for me but here is some astounding information.

If you place all the fat quarters edge to edge how big would that “piece” of fabric be?

The answer is 720” x 880” or a quilt size in the range of 60’ x 73’.  Yes, that is correct a quilt in the region of 60 feet by 73 feet with fabric left over.

Another way to look at this is how many king size quilts will you get out of this fabric?

The answer is around 7 KING SIZE QUILTS. Minus your seam allowances etc. Therefore, does £149.00 for enough fabric to make 7 king size quilt tops seem expensive?

This can work out at £21.28 per king size quilt top based on these figures above.

Of course, there has to be a few caveats in here. You don’t lay out fabric that is 60’ x 73 ft. You have seam allowances and possibly a little waste fabric although this is often used in other projects. I do not want to mislead anyone but seeing a small bundle of fabric on my website can seem difficult to work out what you can use it for.
