Today, we’d like to shed light on a thread offered by Aurifil that has been specifically engineered to handle the high speed of today’s longarm quilting machines, Aurifil Forty3 100% Cotton.

Forty3 Cotton is perfect if you aim to highlight soft and natural stitching, benefiting from the diverse colour options and enhanced strength.

Introduced in 2018, this addition to the Aurifil thread family was developed by adding a 3rd ply to our flagship 40wt/2ply thread. The result is a strong, natural cotton thread prepared specifically to handle the rigor of today’s high-speed and high-tech longarm machines.

Our 40 weight 3 ply 100% cotton is perfect for use with Longarm quilting, but is also a star for Fiber Art, Embroidery & Embellishment, Bag & Garment Sewing, Appliqué

There are currently available in 74 colors, each wound on a yellow cone:

Bobbin: When using Cotton Forty3 thread in a domestic machine, Aurifil recommends using Aurifil 40wt in the bobbin.

Needle: Aurifil also suggests that it is best to use an 90/14 or 100/16 Topstitch or Sharp Needle in any sewing machine. We recommend a 3.0 or 3.5 Needle for Longarm quilters.

When working with Forty for Hand Embellishments and Embroidery, consider using a Crewel/Embroidery needle size 5.
