Crumbs, what a stash buster!!

Crumbs, what a stash buster

Ok, so we all know how many bits of fabric we all have. I bet that you can even remember which quilts the scraps were from! We all say we will get around to making something from these scraps. Or as we quilters say, little bits of love and joy.

It would be a safe bet that there is not be a quilter in the land that will not admit to buying “ just a little extra” fabric for their stash boxes. It might, with all good intentions begin as a quilt pattern. An ever so brief love affair with a fabric, a favourite designer or a must-have bit of fabric joy.

That pattern might take a while to work through, life might get in the way of quilting Nirvana. Eventually we find that we have an over burgeoning “stash box” or in my case wardrobes…

Crumbs.

That is ok. Hold your hands up. Be proud to confess that you are a fabric fiend, a threadoholic or just a collector of fabric memories.

Then there are the scraps… Oh the scraps. I get called tight because I throw nowt away. Even the Selvedges that are cut off go into my scrap box. You never know when you will need a selvedge (with the name of the designer on for reference of course)….

Fabrics.

I even keep the thin slivers of fabric when I trim less off the fabric to square it up. I keep telling the wife that these bits are for Improv quilting, stuffing toys, or for use in Trapunto quilting. In reality, these crumbs of fabric make me a fabric hoarder. Actually, my nana used to work in the telecoms factories in Hartlepool during the ’70s. The women would bring in bolts of fabric to make dresses. My nana died in 2006 and I inherited her wardrobes (plural) of this stash of fabrics. You can see my problem and I do not think that I am alone….

I’m not, alone am I?

So, I have seen online a few cool ways to seriously reduce your scrap bins or your unruly stash boxes. Therefore. I will be doing a one day workshop coming soon on how to use the “crumbs” of your fabric world.

Do not fret peoples this is a fun way to use up all those crumbs and make room. More room for some more fabric delights that you have yet to discover. ?

More information coming soon….
