Sarah’s quilt in Tana lawn.
Sarah never fails to bring beauty and panache to Alan Teather Quilting when she brings in a finished quilt top for Alan to Quilt.
Liberty fabrics
Sarah uses Liberty of London Tana lawn, and this is such a beautiful, but expensive fabric to work with. Tana lawn is a liberty trademarked fabric but, it is believed to be lawn fabric.
Quilts
Quilts in general are made to keep people warm, or at least that is what history has told us in the past. Henry the 8th was reputed to have over 650 Quylts and he used to have these hung throughout his castle rooms to save the heat from going into the stone walls. Although we see quilts as a fabric creation many of “our Henry’s” quilts were tapestrys or weavingings with fabric overlayers.
What is a quilt
As we know, quilts have a top, a backing, and a nice wadding in the middle and a sumptuous backing fabric.
Floating
When working with Tana Lawn the quilt simply floats.
I take a “normal” quilt off the longarm, and they can be quite heavy, especially the larger ones we do.
With Tanna Lawn fabrics that Sarah uses the same size quilt, off the longarm, is probably 50% lighter.
Behaviour.
Tanna Lawn behaves similarly to the way a cotton sheet on your bed floats when you make the bed. it is beautiful.
Also. Sarah’s quilts are so sublime to see and stand out in the design and quality of sewing.
Thank you for letting me work on your quilt.
